It’s been 73 years since the Netherlands was liberated from the Nazis. To mark the occasion, the whole country will hold two minutes of silence at eight o’clock on May 4th.

A ‘bevrijdingsfestival’ (liberation festival) is held in fourteen cities throughout the country, but not in Delft. Why not? We asked the organisation behind the festivals. “We organise one in every provincial capital, plus the national capital and Rotterdam,” they said. Although Delft is an important city for the royal family, it’s neither as big as Rotterdam nor a capital.
Three main acts will travel around the country to perform at as many festivals possible. These are rapper Ronnie Flex, DJ Fedde le Grand and indie band, My Baby. Other big names performing on Saturday are Fresku, Jaya the Cat, Jungle by Night, Di-rect, De Wolff and Kraantje Pappie. Don’t worry if you miss the last two: De Wolff and Kraantje Pappie are confirmed for the International Festival of Technology in Delft in June.
If you don’t want to travel to see any bands, you can stay in Delft. The Bierfabriek is the place to be this weekend. On Friday, it welcomes a band called Homemade Water. This young band used to play covers but recently changed its set and recorded its first EP with its own music. You can hear its new songs this Friday and – for the last time – dance to its old party covers.
On Saturday, you can dance to the summer beat of Fiesta Exotica at the Steck with DJ Prosciutto. Or you can go to the Bierfabriek again, this time for Kevin Rivera. This DJ will play all-round party music, with a touch of house.
