TU’s executive board leaves TU All members of TU’s executive board will leave the TU within a year. President Nico de Voogd’s second term ends on April 1. He hoped for a third term of four years, but the Supervisory Board maintains a policy of appointing members of the board for a maximum of two terms.

De Voogd has agreed to stay on until November 1, while a successor is sought. Vice President of Research, Professor Guus Berkhout, will resign per May 1. His first term would have ended on January 1. Rector Magnificus Karel Wakker completes his two terms in January and shall transfer the Rectorship during the celebration of TU Delft’s 32nd Lustre on January 11. Finally, Vice President of Support, Dr. Jan Oele’s term ends on March 1

In September a new TU course will combine aspects of technical informatics, mathematics and human sciences. These aspects make the course, Media and Knowledge Engineering, unique in the Netherlands, according to project co-ordinator Laura Zondervan. This new course will be part of the BSc-MSc structure. The Information, Technology and Systems faculty has another new course in the pipeline. But as five faculties are involved and much paperwork remains to be done, students won’t be able to start the Sustainable Engineering course next year.

Hazing continues in Delft

A large student fraternity in Leiden is abandoning its hazing rituals in order to attract more students. In response, TU Delft%s student fraternities claim this move is simply a marketing trick. Delft%s fraternities, which also force incoming freshman to undergo these controversial initiation rites, will not stop this tradition, stating it’s thoroughly connected to their identity.
