Legionella bacteria found at Electrical Engineering – PhD student short track champion – TU students international spaghetti bridge winners
Legionella bacteria found at Electrical Engineering
At Electrical Engineering (in the building in front of the high-rise) high concentrations of the dangerous Legionella bacteria were found in the humidifier system%s water tank. As the humidifier has been turned off, it no longer poses a threat. Employees had long complained of health problems and absences due to illness were high. Company doctor, Niek Stolp, stresses that employees have little to be worried about, as there is a very small chance of being infected. A company specialised in disinfecting will clean the water tank. The dean of Electrical Engineering promised to have all reports pertaining to the case translated into English.
PhD student short track champion
Anke Jannie Landman, a PhD student in Civil Engineering, became the Dutch national champion in women’s short track racing. It was no surprise: ”I was the favourite,” she says. On Sunday, she’ll leave for the world championships for national teams, in Japan. Afterwards, she’ll travel to Korea for the individual championships. Landman: ”Those are very important. I can qualify for the next Olympics there.”
TU students international spaghetti bridge winners
Two first prizes, and one second prize, those were the results for Civil Engineering students, Fokke van Gijn and Ruben Jongejan, who were competing in an international contest for building bridges made of… spaghetti, in Canada. Van Gijn became champion with his bridge, weighing 126.9 grams, which was strong enough to easily support four kilograms. Jongejan came in second. Together with two Canadian students, they also won the team contest.
