Student research finds Mekelweg tram best optionAn old issue is raging again: Where should the new campus tram run? The TU’s new Mater Plan dictates that Tram #19 should run along the Schoenmakerstraat, with a bus connection for the Rotterdamseweg.

But Traffic Engineering student Niels van Oort (23) strongly advises against this plan. He compared five alternatives as part of his research for Delft Infra Advise and found that a tram running along the Mekelweg, combined with a bus servicing the Schoenmakerstraat, was the best option. Now that plans for the new campus have been delayed for financial reasons, Van Oort wonders if there’s still time to implement his plan. “I don’t know if the Executive Board knows about my report,” he says, “but the council does.”
