Are sex and drugs really something to be afraid of? As has been proven throughout history . the forbidden fruit is always tempting. The American way of dealing with the problems of drugs and prostitution for instance is ridiculous and completely inefficient: Denial and ignorance are at its core. The Dutch, however, as is appropriate for a progressive nation, approached the problem from another angle. Why put something behind the line of law and lose any control over what will in fact continue? Legalize it, and you put yourself in control over the industry. And of course don’t forget to tax it!

Being in Holland for five years has dramatically expanded my horizons when it comes to sex and drugs. The openness and ease in the Dutch attitude towards these subjects is striking for newcomers and indeed for the rest of the world. Are sex and drugs really something to be afraid of?
