Girls Gone Wild

I know a cheeky girl with the most innocent eyes who managed to date two best friends at the same time with both of the guys knowing about it. The strange part is, the guys neither stopped being friends with each other nor stopped pursuing the girl – it’s like they met up for drinks at the end of the day to discuss strategies and wish each other luck.

And while they patiently waited for her to make up her mind, she was whisked away by a third man who, unbeknown to the previous situation was attracted by the said girl’s innocent charm. Another girlfriend managed to date a record of seven guys at the same time. We named her suitors ‘number 1’, ‘number 2’, and so on until we lost track after we needed more than one hand to enumerate them all. “Number 4 texted me, number 2 asked me out again, and still no word from number 1 since last Friday…” was a typical conversation. And although this may seem like a terrible thing to do, at the time it didn’t seem so bad, simply because the girl in question was… well, a good girl.

Good girls go bad in Delft. I’ve seen this happen countless times; a modest girl shyly talks to guys at parties and blushes at compliments until BAM, she is dating three guys at the same time. This doesn’t mean that Delft magically transforms all girls into sluts. Girls, like guys, have their ups and downs with the opposite sex in normal life, and when they come to Delft and experience much more ups than they do downs — figuratively speaking — a lot of them are simply unprepared for the attention and they don’t know how to say no to guys. Having a string of admirers can be fun for a while, until the girl realizes that this type of behavior is affecting her as much as it may be hurting the guys she is stringing along.

So guys, the next time a girl turns you down at a party, try to appreciate the fact that she didn’t sign you up to be number eight instead.
