The exhibition ‘The garden of passions’ (De tuin der lusten) is the first exhibition of the French painter Bruno Perramant ever held in a museum, with eighty of Perramant’s painting being exhibited. Perramant declares that there is no such thing as reality and that therefore his paintings are merely faint images of what we understand to be ‘reality’. To enable him to picture these faint images and resemble reality, Perramant uses all kinds of painting styles, texts and images he comes across on the street, in the history of art and in movies. Using multiple formats, Perramant pulls the observer out of the world of which he is a part and gives us a sense of the contemporary world solely as an observer.
