When in Delft, do as the Dutch do. That means celebrating the winter holiday of Sinterklaas, or Sint Nicolaas, celebrated on December 5th. Sinterklaas is an elderly man in stately robes who arrives in the Netherlands from Spain every year by boat and tells children if they’ve been naughty or nice.

Car manufacturer Renault brought in industrial designer Laurens van den Acker eight years ago to ‘revive’ the brand and ‘give consumers goose bumps’ again. Now 12 TU Delft students are designing Renault’s car of the future.

Een grote lege polder, zo zag het land waar de TU nu staat eruit na de oorlog. De tentoonstelling Rise of a Campus laat zien hoe de universiteit van de stad naar de polder verplaatste. Vrijdag 1 december opent de tentoonstelling op de bovenste verdieping van de Aula.

PhD student Tim van Emmerik showed that radar technology in space can be used to measure how ‘thirsty’ plants and crops are. He found that this could play a key role in improving our understanding of the interrelationship between ecosystems and the water and carbon cycles. Van Emmerik wrote a poem about it.

Dutch healthcare has been rated the best in Europe by the Euro Health Consumer Index, yet access to medical care in the Netherlands is often perceived by internationals as difficult.
