In TU Delta 18 (June 9th, 2011) the article The election is not for us, it was stated that the recent Student Council elections left international students feeling excluded.

As a future member of this Student Council I would like to react to this statement.

First of all it is a very good thing that students called attention to this matter. International students form 10% of TU Delft’s population and it is extremely important that their voice is heard too. Secondly the article states that there is not enough interest from the Student Council parties in international students. Exactly the opposite is true, as we do think internationalization and issues that international students are having deserve as much attention as other portfolio’s. In fact, we have actively searched to get international students involved in our party, but so far with limited success. As our party has only been established recently we appreciate all the input we can get, which offers international students a great opportunity to be heard. Ideally next elections at least one international student will stand up and actually obtain a seat in the Student Council. But until that time there are many other ways to get involved and make sure international students are represented properly. If you would like to get involved or just share issues you are facing, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Paul Oligschläger, future member of the Student Council for Lijst Bèta.
