Its just a good excuse for a party

This is Article 4 in our special series on the Royal Wedding of Prince Alexander and Maxima. On February 2, fifteen ladies will find themselves in a pub in Seville.

The town where Maximá and Willem-Alexander first met. The ladies will have transformed into real Orange fans: orange face paints, orange clothes and a couple enacting everything to do with the bride and groom to be.

The year club to which Jetske Bouwma (24) and Marloes van der Sluijs (24) belong is going on an anniversary trip to Spain for two weeks. It turns out to be coincidental that they%ll be in Sevilla on that exact date. ”But once we realised that we’d be there during the wedding, we made something of it straight away,” der Sluijs elaborates. ”It’s just a good excuse for a party, really.”

Van der Sluijs and Bouwma are responsible for the ‘Willem and Maximá night’ for their year club Godiva. They will start the evening with a dinner. The entire history of Maximá and Alexander%s first meeting is presented to everybody once more. After that they move on to a pub where they will spend the rest of the evening drinking, singing and playing ‘The Grand Willem and Maximá game’.

The game, devised by them, is made up of a large number of questions and tasks. The assignments are to be carried out if a question is not answered correctly. Bouwma or Van der Sluijs pose the questions and the tasks are disclosed on the backs of small paintings, which are to be worn around the ladies% necks. The fronts of these paintings are, what else, pictures of the happy couple. ”It may all sound a little childish, but it really will be a fun night”, Bouwma asserts.

Bouwma had her brother arrange the pub, as he is a student there for a while. She did ask him to inform the bar’s manager of their plans. ”If you suddenly find yourself with a large group of singing, dancing orange girls in your bar, you are going to be taken aback, of course”, Bouwma laughs. She also asked her brother to try and arrange having the wedding broadcast somewhere, via the Dutch consulate. ”But we won%t know whether he managed until we%re actually there”, she confesses.

To get into the mood over there, Bouwma and van der Sluijs also arranged a number of affairs in the Netherlands. For example, a red Maximá dress and a white Willem-Alexander suit will be travelling with them. ”Two club mates will have to enact the proposal, wearing these costumes”, Bouwma explains. They will also bring along masks of the bride and groom.

A nice surprise awaits the winner: a genuine painting of the married couple.
