LSVb critical of proposed government exit strategy

How long will it be before students and staff can go back to campus? The government is working on a roadmap for easing the lockdown. Don’t put higher education in the back row, warns the National Students’ Union LSVb. 

The LSVb makes this call in response to reports in NRC. The newspaper has had a look at the provisional plans for the so-called ‘exit strategy’ that the cabinet is working on.

According to this roadmap, primary schools and child care will be opened first. The infamous curfew will also be ended. Then secondary schools and the retail trade will reopen and people with contact professions will be allowed to work again.

 

Full shopping districts

The LSVb fears that higher education will only have its turn at a later stage. “That primary education and secondary schools are given priority is completely self-evident,” says chairman Lyle Muns. “But it should not be the case that the shopping districts fill up, while the college desks remain empty. The government has repeatedly stressed the importance of giving young people space and prospects. This roadmap is the perfect opportunity to show that.” (HOP, Evelien Flink)
