The Dutch traffic system is heading for an infarct, said Professor Ben Immers in his entry speech last Friday. Professor Immers is scientific director of the TRAIL research school for Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics.
A greater flexibility of the road network is needed, said Immers, and a key-element in improving flexibility is fast provision of reliable information. Well-informed drivers will choose wisely and relief the pressure on congested routes. Immers thinks that the current information flow is too slow and too fragmented. He pleads for a government body (Rijkswaterstaat) to take control over the traffic information, yet sharing the data with numerous channels and media. Selective prizing of road access might also make traffic more flexible. Immers cited the American HOT-lanes (High Occupancy Toll) as an example. These are lanes reserved for cars transporting two or more people, but they may be used by single drivers too as long as they pay for the privilege.
Het was druk op het jaarlijkse feest van L&R-studievereniging Leonardo da Vinci afgelopen vrijdag. Ter ere van het dertiende lustrum werd er groot uitgepakt met bekende dj’s en de Belgische dance blondine Lasgo.
